British Invasion night - no, there weren’t an audience full of Simons, but some great songs showcased tonight from those Brits of the 60’s. Overall great performances. I think that the men finally stepped it up a notch and they definitely needed to do so. Here is the rundown:
Haley Scarnato: She sang “Tell Him”. Well, my goodness. She was the first one up and she looked great tonight and really got into it. She was wearing this backless shimmery gold thing and some hot shorts - definitely didn’t look like the innocent Haley we all know. She did great tonight..she worked the audience, you could tell she was really enjoying herself. I think the men were enjoying her look more than her performance if you catch my drift…snark snark. Randy said that it was the perfect song choice for her and was by far her best performance. Paula also thought it was the perfect song for her and her flirty side definitely came out tonight which was great. Simon started off by saying, “You Naughty Little Thing”. Heh heh. He said it was a fun and young performance - a little bit shrieky in the middle but “they’ll be talking a lot more than your singing tonight”.
Chris Richardson: He sang “Don’t Let The Sun Get You Crying”. I loved the acoustic accompaniment with him on stage. Great performance. He reminds me so much of Justin Timberlake. Randy said he showed a different side of him tonight and it was his best vocal yet, Paula said he was sexy, charming, she loved the acoustic, and Simon said that it was his best performance yet. He had such control of the song and didn’t make it sound too old fashioned, very good performance.
Stephanie Edwards: She sang “You Have to Say You Love Me”. I don’t know…weeks ago she would have been one of my favorites but she just seems to be going downhill for me. I’m just not impressed with her anymore and I was a little bit bored during her performance. Randy said that it was pitchy, it wasn’t her best performance, Paula said, “First of all, you look great…” then of course she brings her down by saying that she was pitchy and the spirit and fun that she used to have is now kind of drifting. Simon said that Steph is losing her edge, losing her soul. He likened it to a cabaret performance. He thought she’s becoming too old. he misses the passion she used to have. Boy Steph, looks like you got a lot of work to do!
Blake Lewis: He saing, “Time of the Season”. I just love this guy!! I thought he put a really sexy spin on this song and again, enjoyed his performance. I love to see what he’s going to do every week. Randy said he loved the cool vibey thing and how he made the song current, Paula said that he raised the bar, Simon said that he was a million times better than last week and liked how he kept the melody intact - thought it was his strongest performance so far. I agree. Go Blake!!
Lakisha Jones: She sang, “Diamonds are Forever”. She was in fact wearing over a million dollars of jewelry tonight and I thought she looked stunning. I thought it was another consistent performance by Kiki. Awesome. Randy didn’t feel the Kiki in her performance tonight and it was just all right, Paula said that she made the right song choice and of course loved the diamonds, Simon thought that this performance was Lakisha in 50 years - it wasn’t one of his favorite performances of hers.
Phil Stacey: He sang, “Tobacco Road”. It was an okay performance..nothing outstanding or anything. Randy said it was pretty good - pitchy at times, Paula said it was a good song choice, it had its pitchy parts, Simon wasn’t crazy about it, a bar band performance, no grit in his voice, and he wasn’t believable. I think he’ll be in the bottom 3.
Jordin Sparks: She sang, “I Who Have Nothing”. Okay, our Arizona girl did awesome tonight!! I thought it was the best performance so far…she gave me goosebumps - even though it was quite a downer of a song. You go girl!! Randy said that this was a tall order of a song but she pulled it off - best performance so far, Paula said that she is a wonderful performer, Simon said that she sang it beautifully even though it was such a gloomy song. He almost wanted to jump off of a bridge. Heh heh..
Sanjaya Malakar: He sang, “You Really Got Me”. Okay, he was the shocker of the night. Seriously he came out of his shell and totally rocked out this song, not in a good way…it was a horrid performance - he was singing off key, etc, but he worked the crowd and even had a little girl in the audience reduced to tears. Sheesh. She is the reason why he is here week after week. All those little girls who are just sooo in love with him. I don’t get it. Anyways, Randy was pretty much speechless. He was shell shocked. lol. Paula said that this performance was a shocker for her but said that it was his best performance yet, and Simon was speechless as well. Ryan had Sanjaya give the little girl who was crying a hug and by this point she was a blubbering fool. Oh my gosh…let’s cut to a break already. Heh heh.
Gina Glocksen: She sang “Paint It Black”. Oh my, Gina got a haircut. It looks good, but I liked it better the other way. Anyways, I don’t think it was one of her best performances - just kind of ho hum for me. It sounded like she was screaming on stage at some parts. I’ll give her credit though, you can tell that she really enjoys herself up there. Props for that.
Randy and Paula both thought it was okay, Simon said that there were moments of complete torture for him, not very good, and “vocally it was not good, sweetheart”. Ouch!
Chris Sligh: He sang, “She’s Not There”. Yay, he has his glasses back on…whew. He also started out the song amidst the audience and made his way to the stage behind the judges. I thought he was great tonight - he learned his lesson from last week and didn’t butcher up the arrangement. Randy and Paula thought that he was a little bit ahead of the beat, but good performance, Simon said that he did his thing, good song choice for him and a lot better than last week.
Melinda Doolittle: She sang, “As Long As He Needs Me”. She started out sitting on the stage a la Fantasia style and dang another consistent awesome performance. I don’t know why she’s only been a background singer for so long…I guess this is where she is going to break through and be the lead singer she’s always destined to be. Randy said that she was a pro up there, Paula said that she really tells the story of the song, beautiful, and Simon said that it was sensational, impeccable vocals.
So there you have it. Oh, they brought up little crying Ashley on the stage at the end so she could meet all the Idols and I seriously think that she will not sleep a wink tonight…heh heh. Too much for a little girl to handle.
