ai1.JPGLoved that such a hip and cool gal like Gwen Stefani was on the show tonight. Tonight’s theme are songs from No Doubt (not that many) and the songs that were an influence on the band…Here is the rundown:

Lakisha Jones: Kiki sang “Let’s Dance”. It was a great way to start the night off - upbeat and really made you want to get up and dance…heh heh. Loved her whole look tonight - had some smokin’ boots on and a real funky red and black dress. Definitely the girl is back - great performance tonight. Randy said it was up tempo, rocked it, she was truly the fly diva…that was hot! Paula said she did an excellent job, Simon said he loved her boots and was 30 years younger this week. Loved the up tempo beat, great vocal.

Chris Sligh: He sang “Every Little Thing She Does is Magic”. Eh. It was okay. Again, having problems with singing too fast…he looked very nervous tonight I thought. Kinda quivered when he sang. Randy said it was a good choice - he just kept rushing through the song though, Paula said he needs to stay in the pocket, the audience wants to groove with you but can’t, he needs to hear the beat, Simon said that it was a mess, all over the place. Chris said himself - “I was off. My bad.” Um, no shout out this time. heh heh

Gina Glocksen: She sang “I’ll Stand By You”. Dang the girl rocked it tonight. She is quickly becoming one of my favorites. She was awesome this evening! Better than I’ve seen here before. Randy said it was the best performance ever, perfect song for her, Paula said she is improving every week, great song choice, it allowed her to soar in her vocals, Simon said, “It wasn’t one of your best performances, it WAS THE BEST performance. He said it’s all about knowing who you are. Best so far.

Sanjaya Malakar: He sang “Bathwater”. I don’t even know how to talk about this one. First, the hair. Lord it was like a mohawk gone bad and I don’t know how a mohawk can get even worse than it already looks…Believe me, you had to see it to believe it. I will post a pic of it as soon as I can find one. Okay, back to the singing. Or lack thereof. Oy it hurts to hear him. Crying Ashley wasn’t there in case you’re wondering. LOL. Randy said that he’s speechless yet again and the hairdo is interesting. Paula said that he needs to go for it…she loves to watch him on stage but thinks he needs to go for it more, Simon said..and this is classic…”There must not have been a mirror in your dressing room tonight?” He went on to say, “I don’t think it matters anymore what we say. I think you’re in your own universe and good luck.” Heh heh.

Haley Scarnato: She sang “True Colors”. No sexy hot shorts and braless top for her tonight, guys. Her performance tonight was kind of boring…kind of fast forwarded the Tivo while she was singing. Randy said that she started out rough but was better in the end, it didn’t grab him, pitchy, Paula said aim to be more contemporary, Simon said it was sweet but forgettable - too safe. She needs to do better than that.

Phil Stacey: He sang “Every Breath You Take”. Really pleasantly surprised by his performance. I thought it was strong throughout. One of his better ones thus far. Randy said that he liked it. Solid performance. He liked it, dawg! Paula said it was a good song choice, real good performance, Simon said it was very good, it was the first time he felt that he was taking this seriously and trying in this competition.

Melinda Doolittle: Mindy sang “Heaven Knows”. Consistent once again, awesome performance. I don’t like her hair though. She should have never cut it. Randy said that she sings and lives the words in the song, Paula said she has such charisma, fun, Simon said that it was outstanding as usual, hates her outfit.

Blake Lewis: He sang “Love Song”. Love my boy! Great as usual…no beat boxing thing going on tonight (which I missed) but great performance, almost a little bit serious for him. Randy said he made the most of the song and he liked it, Paula said that she loved what he did to the song, loves that he takes risks, he could be the dark horse and would love to see him in the finale, Simon said that he is by far the strongest guy in the competition but he needs to be careful as far as his individuality (um that’s what I love about him), for sure he’s in the front running.

Jordin Sparks: She sang “Hey Baby”. Our hometown girl rocked it again tonight. I thought it was a perfect song to show her age, so to speak. Everyone talks about how mature she is and my gosh, she is only 17 years old and it was nice to see that this showed the “teenage” side of her. Randy said that she can sing anything, great recording artist, Paula said that she loved her in this kind of mode, Simon said that she is the most improved contestant he’s seen over the past couple weeks, likes seeing the other side to her that is much younger, more confident, thought the performance tonight was a bit copycattish.

Chris Richardson: He sang “Don’t Speak”. He put his own spin to this song and frankly I enjoyed it. I was shocked to see him in the bottom two last week and felt that he was there unjustly so I was afraid for him the most this week as far as his song choice. I think he pulled it off nicely. Randy said that he loved his flavor, “just believe baby”, Paula said “you’re good Chris, real good”…*rolling my eyes* lol, Simon said that he wasn’t crazy about the vocal, felt he struggled in the song and he needs to pay attention to your vocals right now.

So there you have it. My guess would be that it’s Haley that gets the boot tomorrow night. Unfortunately, I think Sanjaya will be saved by the “crying little girls” again.
