ailogo.JPGWell, seeing Tony Bennett interacting with these American Idol wannabes was kind of humorous in a way to me - and that he actually loves this show is mind boggling as well. LOL. Here’s the rundown:

Blake Lewis: First, funny comment from Tony - “This song is pre-rap.” Heh heh. Once again, Blake puts his own spin on the song with his smooth rendition of “Mack the Knife”. Randy said that it was the perfect song for him, he’s a funky, jazzy, cool dude, Paula said he personifies pizazz, and Simon said that it was a good choice for him, he gave Blake 7/10 and the bank an 8/10.

Phil Stacey: He sang “Night and Day”. Quite frankly, I was bored through the whole song. Ugh. Painful. Randy didn’t feel any connection or passion, was disconnected, Paula said that he was a young Frank Sinatra (uhm Paula, hello?), and Simon said that he sounded like someone singing in a funeral parlor, it was gloomy and dark, no life in the performance.

Melinda Doolittle: She sang “I Got Rhythm”. Well of course, she sang flawlessly. Randy said that this was a lesson in singing, “this is how you do it right here America”, Paula said this was master class for everyone to watch, and Simon said that he doesn’t think that he’ll ever be able to criticize her.

Chris Richardson: Breakout performance of the night. He sang “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore”. I loved him tonight. I thought he finally came through and he showed it. Randy said that it was his best performance, very cool, young, and hip, Paula said that it was his best performance, Simon said that it was very good, very believable, made it hip, worked it out well, one of the strongest of the night.

Jordin Sparks: She sang “On a Clear Day”. I just love this cutie pie…our Arizona girl is doing this state proud!! Great performance as usual. Randy said it was da bomb, very controlled, Paula said that she is a magnet of joy and exudes it when she is on stage, Simon said that she sang it very well, but it was kind of old fashioned, very traditional. Well, whaddya expect Simon? It is standards week…sheesh.

Gina Glocksen: She sang “Smile”. This is one of my favorite songs and Gina did good by it. Pretty good, considering she’s a rocker at heart. Randy said that it was a very nice and controlled performance for the rocker girl, Paula said it was a flawless performance, Simon said that he can’t rave about the vocals because the two girls before her pretty much blew her away.

Sanjaya Malakar: Well, didn’t catch what he sang…sorry about that…but he was decked out in an all White suit and wow, we even got a glimpse of his father in the audience. His hair was kind of slicked back…no mohawk this week. I thought it was funny when he said, “My goal this week is to show America that I can actually sing.” Uh, note to Sanjaya: You can’t. Icky performance as usual…please America, let this be the week that he goes. Randy said that he’s a great entertainer, Paula said that his vocals were a little off (uh, duh Paula) but he has a sort of charm about him, and Simon said, “let’s try a different tactic this week”…incredible. LMAO!

Haley Scarnato: She sang “Ain’t Misbehavin’”. Okay, I think Miss Haley is trying everything she can as a last ditch effort to stay on - wearing a skimpy dress with some major cleavage going on…I’m thinking a lot of tape…I mean lots of it, if you know what I mean…Eh, it was pitchy and I just was not amused by her little rendition. Randy didn’t even say what he thought of it, he asked Simon what he thought and Simon said, “great legs”. Pretty much it.

Lakisha Jones: She sang “Stormy Weather”. Yay the girl is back..she needed this - especially that she dropped in the EW Power List from #4 to #5 this week. Awesome performance. Randy said that it was a little pitchy in front but she saved it for the middle and end, it was da bomb, Paula said that this was the most gorgeous she has ever looked and awesome, Simon said that she was back on form, it was a sassy and great performance.

There you have it, folks. I predict that it will be either Haley or Phil that leaves tomorrow night. I’ve just about given up hope that Sanjaya will go.
