A warrant for Richard Gere’s arrest was issued by an Indian court today over Gere’s PDA towards Bollywood superstar Shilpa Shetty (see the video above). Gere and Shetty were at an AIDS awareness function earlier this month when Gere took Shetty in his arms, kissed her several times on the cheek, then dipped her and kissed her some more.
Judge Dinesh Gupta issued the arrest warrant after viewing the footage and later said that the kiss:
“transgressed all limits of vulgarity” and was “highly sexually erotic”
The “highly sexually erotic kiss” could land Gere in jail for three months. There was not a warrant issued against Shetty, but she was ordered to appear in court on May 5. Shetty has publicly said that the whole incident is really insignificant, and that protesters should be focused on the AIDS issue instead.
