Well, they didn’t show that much footage of Jordin here in Arizona - so much for the American Idol crew following Jordin around seriously all day long Friday and for most of it to end up on the cutting room floor…Whew, one hour, three contestants, three songs each…Here we go:



Jordin Sparks: Simon’s pick for Jordin was “Wishin on a Star.” I really love her voice and of course, did a wonderful job!! Randy said that it was a very good vocal, “that was hot!”, Paula said that she did a beautiful job, and Simon said that she sang it brilliantly but he didn’t like the arrangement.



Blake Lewis: Paula picked “Roxanne.” Another great performance for my Blake. Randy said that it was a great, great performance, Paula said that it was fantastic and fresh, Simon said that it was good, it wasn’t great.



Melinda Doolittle: Randy chose “I Believe in You and Me”. Wow, I must say that she really dug deep for this one, it gave me chills while she was singing it. Awesome! Randy said that it was hot, blew it out of the box, Paula said that it was fantastic (this is Paula’s favorite word of the night), and Simon said that it was the best performance in the last four weeks and Round 1 goes to Melinda.




Jordin:The producers pick “She Works Hard for the Money” It was pretty much copycat to the way Donna Summer sings it, but still, a solid performance from her. Randy said that it was very nicely done, and it doesn’t matter what she sings, she does her thing, Paula said it was…of course…fantastic, Simon said that it was a very good performance.



Blake: Producers pick “This Love” by Maroon 5. Wow, he sounds so smooth while singing this and I love just the little bit of beatboxing that he throws in - not too much, not too little. Loved loved loved it!! Randy said it was very nicely done, Paula said he was totally in his element, Simon said that he preferred this song to the first one.



Melinda: The producers chose “Nutbush City Limits.” Okay, Melinda totally rocked this one out and why not? It is an Ike and Tina Turner song. Randy said that it was another great performance, Paula said we love you we love you we love you, Simon said that he loved that side of her, another brilliant performance.



Jordin: She sang “I Who Have Nothing” again. Remember the first time she sang it? So much raw emotion, totally got goose bumps when I heard her sing, well she did it again…gah only 17 years old and just incredible (Okay, I know I’m sounding like Randy there, heh heh). Randy said that it was another great performance, Paula said that it sat well in her voice, good choice, and Simon said that she sang the song very well but for the life of him can’t understand why a 17 year old would sing a 60 year old song. Um, whatever Simon.



Blake: He sang “When I Get You Alone” by Robin Thicke. First of all, I’m not too fond of Thicke so I wasn’t that thrilled with his song choice. It was okay, strong, but just okay to me. Randy said that it was alright, Paula said that he had 3 great songs, and Simon said that he actually really liked it, “you don’t play it safe, you take risks, and you actually look like you’re having fun up there”.



Melinda: Melinda sang “I’m a Woman” again. It was okay, I mean, don’t get me wrong, the girl can sing her heart out, but the second time around on this song I could have done without. Sorry I wasn’t able to capture the judges’ responses - something weird with the Tivo at that point.



This is too close to call for me. I think that it will be Blake that will end up going home, even though he did a great job tonight - but let’s face it, someone has to go home. It’s gonna be a fight to the end though, with Melinda and Jordin battling it out. We shall see in just 24 hours who the two left standing will be.
