Wynonna Judd is on the cover of the September issue of Ladies’ Home Journal, which hits newsstands August 14th. In the mag, she speaks about her recently split from her husband, D.R. Roach, who at one time was her security director and road manager. He was charged back in March with aggravated sexual battery against a child under 13.

“Everything’s not all right, but I’m all right with everything,” Wynonna said.

Her reaction to the news of Roach’s arrest:

“Disbelief and shock. These are things that you read about and see on the news about people, and you think to yourself, ‘Never in my family!’ “

Did you feel duped by D.R.?

“I know that both D.R. and I had issues with addiction when I married him. … I know the people I chose, I know why I chose them, and I really thought that I could change people through loving them enough. It doesn’t work that way.”

Do you still have contact with him?

“We see each other and communicate through our lawyers and mediator. There are still personal and professional details to make decisions about.”

On still wearing her wedding ring:

“It is hard to just detach overnight. I’m healing in my own time. And so I do wear my ring.”

On hope for the relationship:

“I have a newfound perspective on what my needs are and what I need in a healthy relationship. My heart does not give up easy in terms of having hope.”
