Are Nicole Richie and Joel Madden officially engaged?

The buzz is that Joel Madden popped the question Thursday. Madden and his band, Good Charlotte, had a Friday night performance at the Hot 99.5 Lil’ Black Dress Party hosted by Perez Hilton at the Clarendon Ballroom in Arlington, Virginia. As Joel walked offstage, the morning DJ from 99.5, Kane, told the crowd, “He got engaged yesterday. Congratulations, Joel!” Joel then looked back over his shoulder but didn’t respond. Kane told PEOPLE that he heard the news Friday morning and was informed by “good sources”. He went on to say that he congratulated Joel on the news and Joel responded, “Thank you so much.”

Nicole was not seen at the party, but she and Joel were spotted around Washington, D.C. earlier in the day.

Nicole Richie entered a guilty plea today in her DUI case and was sentenced to four days in jail. She was given credit for the six hours she spent in custody previously. Nicole will serve her time some time within the next 60 days, having to show proof of her time by September 28. She must also enroll in a drug and alcohol program within 21 days and pay a fine of $2048.

She was arrested back on December 11th after she was driving down the wrong way on a California highway. She failed the field sobriety test and admitted to smoking marijuana and taking Vicodin just prior to her arrest. She plead guilty in February to misdemeanor charges of DUI. She was previously convicted of misdemeanor DUI in June 2003.

Blah blah blah. We all knew that Nicole was pregnant with all of the baby bump photos circulating so Us Mag has confirmed the preggers news for us. Nicole is more than 12 weeks pregnant with Joel Madden’s offspring. A source told Us that “she is extremely excited”.

But wait, there’s more! It looks like Joel has gone shopping for an engagement ring and that both families are thrilled with the baby news. Um, are they also thrilled that Nicole could be heading to jail? She’s due in court on July 11th in regards to her December 2006 arrest. If she is found guilty, the pregnant Mama could get 90 days to a year in jail because she had previously been convicted for a DUI in 2003. Having a baby in jail. Lovely.

Nicole Richie’s reps are denying that the emaciated star is in rehab. The National Enquirer and Star Magazine are reporting that she is in treatment for an eating disorder and substance abuse. Claims are being made that she checked into the Beau Monde Treatment Center in Corona Del Mar, California on May 11th. Evidently she is not only being treated for an eating disorder, but addiction to pills as well. Both tabloids are saying that after several days of detox, Nicole then started outpatient treatment. She was seen arriving at the clinic on May 19th, but folks at the Richie camp are saying that she was merely visiting a “friend”.

…Seen here on a promotional shoot for their show “The Simple Life”. This is their fifth season and quite frankly, hopefully their last. Nicole is just drowning in her pink tent…horrid, I tell ya!

According to BANG Showbiz, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden are engaged to be married. They almost married in Las Vegas on February 17, but wanted to get Nicole’s dad (Lionel Richie’s) blessing. They evidently picked out matching silver and diamond rings in a jewelry boutique in Caesar’s Palace. They stopped short of marrying at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Vegas, where they reportedly waited outside forever.  Um, cold feet maybe?

Lionel Richie has welcomed Joel into the family and is thankful for everything he has done for Nicole. The wedding reportedly will take place at Mexico’s Las Ventanas Resort in Cabo San Lucas - a small ceremony with less than 100 people.

Nicole Richie was sent to the hospital Friday while filming The Simple Life. She fell ill and was treated by a doctor on the set, then was taken to a hospital close by. She received IV fluids for 15 minutes and was released. Her rep released a statement saying:

“Nicole is home resting and will return to work this evening. We are proud of the weight that Nicole is gaining and her focus on her health.”

She sought treatment last October to find out why she was having difficulty putting on weight. Hmmm. I think I know the answer to that one. EAT. Then eat some more. It’s that simple.
