aigoinghome.JPGThere is only one person going home from American Idol tonight that I think deserved to leave. The other three…I’m just speechless. Finally Antonella Barba was booted off…it’s been a long time coming and at least America was right with that but choosing to keep Haley Scarnato over Sabrina Sloan? Give me a break…Sabrina blew Haley out of the water last night singing wise so I’m not really sure what happened there other than the obvious - America just did not vote correctly.

I was truly expecting Phil Stacey to go home tonight and am surprised that they kicked Jared Cotter off. His rendition of a LeeAnn Rimes song I thought would send him packing but once again, America must have thought that it was good enough for him to be in the Top 12. Hmmmph.

And now for the travesty. Sanjaya makes the Top 12 and Sundance does not…I suppose I’m not surprised only because there is so much buzz about Sanjaya through all the teenyboppers. He has such a following online and even my 9 year old and all of her little friends are just goo goo over this kid. So…obviously that’s where all the votes came from because clearly his votes were not garnered for him because of his singing. Oy!!

Probably the bright light of the night was Carrie Underwood’s performance. She’s still cute as ever and I’m happy to see that she has been so successful after winning the American Idol competition in 2005. Ummmm hello…Ruben? Where ya at buddy? I see more of Clay than I do of you. Get back in the game….

That’s my recap for the night… Here’s the Top 12:

American Idol Girls Recap

Author: Jeanette
07.03.2007

ailogo.JPGFirst off, Ryan - lose the turtleneck. If you’re wearing it to elongate your neck, thus making yourself look taller than all the girls, heh heh…didn’t work. Okay enough about that. Let’s get down to the nitty gritty:

Jordin Sparks: She’s one of my favorites because she’s a hometown girl…yup, she’s right here from Phoenix. I thought she did great with a Pat Benatar song, but I kind of wish she would pick something that’s more in her “age group”…the girl is 17 years old and she totally can sing. I don’t think she was “shrieky” as Simon put it…Great job…through to the next round.

Sabrina Sloan: You know, I think I was expecting more from her this week. Don’t get me wrong - she can totally belt it out but there wasn’t really any “wow” to her performance. Simon likened it to a “hotel resort performance and too mechanical”. I just thought it was okay. She’ll move on though, no problem.

Haley Scarnato: She sang “If My Heart Had Wings” and it was a snoozer. It was all right but again…no personality=boring=bye bye bye. Simon thought it was boring too and said “I don’t know your name”. Well, he’s right. She hasn’t stood out at all from the get go and this was probably her last performance. I didn’t really like her comment of “I’ll clock in and clock out”. Hmmph. Ya must not want it that bad, Haley.

Stephanie Edwards: She reminds me of Latoya London…I thought she did a great job and worked the crowd but to the judges they felt as if she is somewhat of a “copycat” performer and that she needs to really come into her own - show off her own persona so to speak. I predict her to be in the top 4.

Lakisha Jones: Ummm yeah, the girl rocked it out again tonight - wasn’t as incredible as her first week when she sang “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” but she definitely can sing. I loved it when Simon said, “Tonight, you look beautiful.” I agree. She looked great tonight. Of course she’s moving on.

Gina Clocksen: Well, now…There’s the rocker chick that we’ve been wanting to see!! Loved her tonight…pulled off an “Evanescence” song and you could tell that this was her element. Simon hopes that America didn’t think it was too edgy and puts her through. I hope so too…she might be one that could surprise all of us. Note to Gina: You looked wayyyy better! ! Lose the prom dress from last week and burn it.

Melinda Doolittle: She sang “I’m a Woman” and dang she was the best one of the night. It’s hard to believe that all this time she has only been a back-up singer ’cause girlfriend…you rocked it out tonight!! You can tell she is getting more and more comfortable on stage and I loved Simon’s remark…”You little tiger”. For me…it’s gonna be a battle between Melinda and Lakisha.

Antonella Barba: I left her last because truly she’s sinking fast. It’s the end of the road…It’s gone on too long…It’s so obvious that these other girls in the competition are way out of her league…I did like her song choice - Corinne Bailey Rae’s “Put Your Records On”, but she had some problems with the lower register that you couldn’t even hear her singing. Randy wasn’t diggin’ her again this week…Paula gave her some constructive criticism and the surprise of the night was when Simon had addressed the fact that Antonella had really taken a lot of flack from the media lately and she has held her own throughout. Hmmmm. Simon has a heart. Heh heh. This was it for her. We’ll see if she takes that GGW gig or not….

Well that’s it…the American Idol girls recap…We shall see what happens tomorrow night.

Don’t forget…Carrie Underwood performs tomorrow.

Girls Gone Wild newest host?

Author: Jeanette
07.03.2007

barba.JPGAccording to US Magazine, Joe Francis of “Girls Gone Wild” has offered Antonella a job as GGW’s new host. Reportedly it’s a $250,000 gig. No word yet from Antonella if she plans to take the job. Of course reps from American Idol are mum.

Hmmmm. You should think about this one Antonella. You’ll be booted off American Idol after tonight since you can’t sing so maybe you should utilize your “other talent” Looks like this would be right up your alley.
